Nneka

„Sunday Times “Victim of Truth is as good as The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill..”
„Blues & Soul “Soul queen in the making”
„Notion “An intelligent album with influences that reflect her Nigerian roots and well as her time in the Western world.”
„Touch “Nneka’s debut album is nearly as cool as her hair-do!”
Born in Nigeria, Nneka relocated some 10,000 miles to Hamburg, Germany, at the age of nineteen to pursue a career in singing along side a degree in Anthropology. Having landed in the German port, the singer hooked up with DJ and Hip-Hop beatmaker DJ Farhot and ever since, their strong musical relationship has been the backbone of Nneka’s success. Her influences reflect her younger days in Nigeria as well as her time in the Western world. The distance she has travels shines through in her voice as does her diverse musical influences. She cites famous compatriot Fela Kuti and legend Bob Marley as well as contemporary rappers Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Mobb Deep and Lauryn Hill as key influences in her pursuit of musical recognition.
After finishing her debut EP “The Uncomfortable Truth” she toured Europe, commencing a long live schedule, performing to up to 6000 people at her later gigs, this young talent supported the likes of Femi Kuti, Seeed, Sean Paul and Gnarls Barkley. Performing all over Europe, from her adopted hometown of Hamburg to Holloway Prison in London.
Nneka’s album “Victim Of Truth” was released in September 2006 to rave reviews from the music press. The songs on the album provide a range of sounds from deep soulful ballads like ‘Confession’ to funky Hip-Hop tracks like ‘Stand Strong’ to ‘Changes’, which is a modern reinvention of the 90s UK soul sound.
Despite her Nigerian background, Nneka’s sound is strongly connected with her European journey.
“The way they dress, the way they carry themselves, their religion. So many things that are important to me are not important to them. For two years I was overwhelmed.”
This difference in ethical outlook comes to the fore in her music, with her social responsibility to her homeland of Nigeria laying heavy on her mind.
“I get inspired when I take a severe look at the things going on in our world today; especially in my country. How people live, suffer and endure pain, politics and religion, when I see all that man has evoked and created out of self-centeredness and devotion to material things”.
Nneka’s voice strikes an eerie balance between rage and pain which mirror’s the abrasion of two continents, Europe and Africa, within Nneka’s life so far. Nneka reiterates her humility in the face of her musical talents.
“I do not see myself as a performer but as somebody who shares her heartfelt feelings with others. I have fortunately, by the grace of God, the opportunity to sing my message to you on stage.”

Lula: The Sexy Empire (PC)

Some of you may well remember a game called Rock Star Ate My Hamster, a comical business sim in which you had to manage a band with the aim of getting to the top of the pop charts. Well, Lula (or Wet to give the game its European name) is a bit like that, except you have to manage your way from fugitive amateur photographer to porn industry bigwig.
You may be aware that Lula has been selling steadily for well over six months - mainly to young anoraks sneaking a copy to the sales assistant in the hope of spending the next six months with one hand choking a swollen gherkin (presumably their own) and the other dancing intermittently between a sticky mouse and a strategically-placed box of super-absorbent wipes. Perhaps the game should've been called Porn Star Ate My Beaver instead.
The first part of the game basically involves taking photos and videos of Lula and selling them on. Occasionally, you'll have to find another girl for her to play with, or some lubricants or even a 'moist-a-rater'. But after watching a few still shots jerking around, you soon realise how incredibly dull the whole enterprise is. It's impossible to get anything wrong and after a couple of hours of 'going through the motions' it's with some 'relief' that you reach the next section. There you must hire screenwriters, sales staff, actors and secretaries, and buy up production buildings - all to make more movies that, in the real world, would warrant a full police investigation on the grounds that they were shite.
Lula is one of those rare games where you wished the developers had used gratuitous FMV rather than flickbook animation. As a business sim it's simplistic at best. As a comedy adventure it's non-existent. As something to thrash yourself off to it's just desperate. Instead, get yourself a modem. Go to www.altavista.digital.com and type in 'saggy udders' - you'll have a lot more fun.

First you need to open a picture. You can do this by clicking the open icon or by dropping a picture on the application window or icon. Then you can choose a template from the popupmenu. Maybe try a few to see which you like best. Then choose one of the toolbar buttons or the corresponding menu's. You can create a new foldericon. You can apply the icon to an existing folder. You can apply the icon to the parent folder, that is the folder in which the picture can be found. And you can apply the icon to a file. Its smart and simple, try it, you'll like it.
New in this version:
- Now it's possible to apply 6 image filters before creating an icon; sharpen, smooth, colorbalance, greyscale, contrast and brightness
- Added templates
Previous version:
- Easier template navigation; buttons and keyboard shortcuts added
- Fixed bug that caused iCoco not to launch on some systems
- Applied proper interface capitalizations
- Minor bug fixes
- iCoco now can change volume icons, like harddisks, removables and cd-roms (to be burned)
- More and updated templates
- Added an option to export icons as images
- Added an option to save icons as png with transparency

Science des rêves, La (2006)

Director and writer:
Michel GondryA man entranced by his dreams and imagination is lovestruck with a French woman and feels he can show her his world.
| Gael García Bernal | ... | Stéphane Miroux | |
| Charlotte Gainsbourg | ... | Stéphanie |
[first lines]
Stephane: ¡Un, dos, tres, cuatro!
[Stéphane plays the drums, then the piano, then moves the cameras. "Stéphane TV"]
Stephane: Hi, and welcome back to another episode of "Télévision Educative". Tonight, I'll show you how dreams are prepared. People think it's a very simple and easy process but it's a bit more complicated than that. As you can see, a very delicate combination of complex ingredients is the key. First, we put in some random thoughts. And then, we add a little bit of reminiscences of the day... mixed with some memories from the past.
[adds two bunchs of pasta]
Stephane: That's for two people. Love, friendships, relationships... and all those "ships", together with songs you heard during the day, things you saw, and also, uh... personal... Okay, I think it's one.
[Red smoke comes out of the pot]
Stephane: There it goes. Yes! Yes.
[coughs]
Stephane: Okay, we have to run.
